Term 2 Learning

Topic

Our topic this term is '1066'. We will learn about the Battle of Hastings. This will include why it occurred, who was involved and what happened as a result. We will also be looking closely at the Bayeux Tapestry. Our historical, geographical and creative learning will all focus around this topic. We will be reading '1066 - I was there' by Jim Eldridge during guided reading sessions to aid our understanding of the event.

PE

Gecko class will now have PE on a Friday afternoon with Mr Clayton. This term, you will be focusing on developing your fitness.

Science

In science, we will be learning about 'Sound'. We will be using scientific vocabulary such as vibration, pitch and volume to discuss sounds, as well as identifying sound sources. We will then use our knowledge and understanding to carry out some scientific investigations surrounding out sound topic.

Maths

During the first two weeks, Year 3 will continue to focus on addition and subtraction while Year 4 look at length and perimeter. From week 3, all of Gecko Class will be learning about multiplication and division. This links in well with our TT rockstars programme. We will be looking at a range of strategies to solve multiplication and division problems and use mathematical vocabulary to explain our reasoning.

English

During the first few weeks of term, our English will be focused around our '1066' topic. This will involve us writing job applications for the king of England and writing diary entries, imagining we were in the battle. After this, we will be looking at the text ' The Ice Palace'. This book has a lot of powerful and interesting vocabulary for us to focus on. We will be writing a range of genres when reading this book and using role play to bring the story alive.
