Our learning in school
During term 2 we will be having daily phonics, writing and maths lessons. We will also have guided reading and topic lessons most days, as well as weekly RE, PSHE and PE sessions.
In phonics we will be continuing to follow the Letters and Sounds scheme.
In our guided reading sessions we will be sharing poetry inspired by bonfire night, the CBeebies story of remembrance, The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas, and other texts linked to our Muck, Mess and Mixtures topic.
Our writing lessons will be linked to Cake Girl by David Lucas, The Disgusting Sandwich by Gareth Edwards and George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl.
In maths we will be continuing to build on addition and subtraction. Our Year 1s will then be learning about the properties of shapes whilst our Year 2s will be learning about money.
Our topic for the term is Muck, Mess and Mixtures. It largely encompasses science and art and will be very ‘hands on’ as we explore which liquids mix together, how to dissolve solids into liquids, melting and freezing, and creating the perfect bubble!
RE learning will cover the six major world religions over the course of the year. This term’s focus is Christianity and Advent.
In PE we will be developing our teamwork and listening skills through a range of exciting games and stories.
