Welcome to the Gecko Class page! We are thrilled to have you join our vibrant learning community. This page is designed to keep you informed and connected to your child’s educational journey. Throughout the year, you’ll find important updates, class resources, event announcements, and highlights of the exciting activities happening in Gecko class.
Our goal is to create a nurturing and supportive environment where every student feels empowered to explore, learn, and grow to their full potential. We value the partnership between home and school and encourage open communication to ensure the best experience for your child.
Year 3 is an exciting and important year as children begin Key Stage 2 and develop greater independence in their learning. At Springhead Park, we provide our Year 3 children with a range of memorable experiences, including educational school trips, themed learning days and enrichment activities that inspire curiosity and a love of learning. Throughout the year, our English curriculum focuses on building upon the skills developed in Key Stage 1, including spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG), whilst introducing children to a wider range of vocabulary, sentence structures and creative writing techniques. We aim to develop confident, enthusiastic learners who are ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of Key Stage 2.
Our texts that we will be covering over the course of the academic year are: The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, The Ancient Egypt Sleepover by Stephen Davies, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, Beast of Olympus by Lucy Coats and David Roberts, The Stolen Spear by Saviour Pirotta and Charlotte's Web by E. B. White.
Key Information
- Home time is at 3:30pm and we will exit through the Badger class door.
- PE is on Thursdays and Fridays. Please make sure your child arrives at school in the correct PE kit.
- Spelling and Times Tables tests are on a Friday.
- 15 minutes of reading at home must completed every day and recorded in your child's reading record. This should be in school every day.
- If you would like to chat about anything please email the office or talk to me at home time after the children have gone.

Home Learning
- Reading records will be checked once a week. Children will be able to change their banded book and library book when they have finished it.
- TT Rockstars should be used to practice times tables. Your child's log in will be in their reading record.
- Spelling Shed should be used to practice spellings. Your child's log in will be in their reading record.
- There will be a topic based homework menu given out at the beginning of term. Your child should complete at least one task and bring it to school by the last week of term to share with their peers.

Class Charity
The children have voted and have decided to focus on the charity Hive Hope a local food bank.
