KS2
In KS2, reading is taught whole class, with a focus on comprehension skills. VIPERS (vocabulary, inference, prediction, explain, retrieval, summarising) skills are taught in turn. Children are taught to identify which reading skill is being used, identify the strategies needed to use the reading skill and apply these to comprehension tasks. These tasks are a varied and designed to use the reading skills in a variety of formats.
The whole class lessons are structured to allow for time for reading in every lesson. They are scheduled to be taught daily for 30 mins per day.
