Welcome to the Year 4 class page! We are thrilled to have you join our vibrant learning community. This page is designed to keep you informed and connected with your child’s educational journey. Throughout the year, you’ll find important updates, class resources, event announcements and highlights of the exciting learning taking place in Year 4.

Our goal is to create a nurturing and supportive environment where every child feels empowered to explore, learn and grow to their full potential. We value the partnership between home and school and encourage open communication to ensure the best possible experience for your child.

Year 4 at Springhead Park is carefully planned to help children become increasingly confident, resilient and independent learners. Throughout the year, children will enjoy a broad and engaging curriculum filled with memorable learning experiences, practical activities and exciting opportunities. In English, we build upon the skills taught in previous year groups, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, while developing children’s use of ambitious vocabulary, varied sentence structures and figurative language. Our aim is for every child to grow in confidence and express their ideas clearly and creatively as both a reader and a writer.

Our class texts are sequenced to ensure the children are exposed to a wide range of text, such as, The Song of the Dolphin Boy by Elizabeth Laird, The River Singers by Tom Moorhouse, Varjak Paw by SF Said, Roman Diary; The Journey of Iliona by Richard Platt, The Thousand Year Old Boy by Ross Welford and Anglo-Saxon Boy by Tony Bradman. We love to pick exciting books that our children will be enthused by reading, linking this reading work to writing tasks during our English lessons.

Useful information: 

- We will have PE on Mondays and Thursdays. Please come to school wearing the correct PE kit on these days. 

- Spellings will be practised within school throughout the week and tested on Friday. 

- Children will be given a termly homework project for them to complete with their adults at home, which is a nice opportunity for them to share their learning with their family. This homework will be given at the start of the term and projects can be bought in up until the end of the term. We will then share these within the class and celebrate the children's achievements.

- Alternating Maths and English homework will be set every Friday and due the following Friday.  

- Reading records should be bought into school every day and be signed by an adult at home weekly.

- Please ensure children are practising their times tables on TTRS for at least 20 minutes a day and practising their spellings on Spelling Shed for 10 minutes a day. 

- Library visits will be on Friday.
