PGL Bawdsey Manor 2024 Blog!

Sunday 16th June: 9.30pm

We have had a fantastic first day! We arrived and got settled straight into our rooms and unpacked before exploring the grounds of Bawdsey Manor. We had a look around where we would be doing our activities in the coming days and also saw the nearby beach. We then enjoyed a delicious dinner of either lasagne or sausage roll, before our evening activity. We learnt how to play 'Disc Golf' which was essentially playing golf with a frisbee! It was harder than it sounds! We have all had a shower and have settled into our beds, ready for an action-packed day tomorrow!

Monday 17th June: 8.10pm

Well, what a busy day we have had! We started the day off with a hearty breakfast of bacon, veggie sausages and hash browns, before heading off to the zip line! We had a great time and faced our fears. We then headed over to Sensory Trail, where we were blindfolded and had to rely on our other senses and each other to communicate. We had to navigate an obstacle course whilst blindfolded and try to communicate with each other to warn others about the obstacles. Some of us got to try the Giant Swing today which was scary but we loved! We had a great lunch of pizza before heading over to Challenge Course, which is an army style assault course. We loved this and tried to navigate the course in different ways, such as whilst carrying a cup of water! To round of the day's activities, we all headed over to the lake for canoeing! We all had a go and tried different things whilst controlling our canoe... until a few of us fell in! We all had a fantastic time (even Mr Brown and Miss Aldridge who also fell in!!!). Dinner was meatballs or fish fingers which we ate before getting our gladrags on for the disco! We are now partying the night away before a well-earned night's sleep!

Tuesday 18th June: 8.50pm

We have had another wonderful day here at Bawdsey Manor. The sun has been shining and we have had loads of really fun activities throughout the day. We kicked off the day with breakfast of sausages, hash browns and toast, before heading off to our activities. First up was buggy building where we worked in teams to build a real buggy we would all be able to ride on. We learnt a variety of different rope knots and had a great time whizzing around on them when they were built! Next, we headed over to the Giant Swing, which was so much fun! We all were super brave and really enjoyed it. After lunch, we became real-life Robin Hoods and did some archery! We played a variety of different games designed to support our aim and shooting. We then had a go at Jacob's Ladder, which was really tricky to climb, but some of us managed to reach the top through teamwork and determination! We then all headed down to the local beach, to skip stones, paddle in the water and search for shark teeth. It was lovely! After a dinner of mac and cheese, we had great fun at the campfire, singing songs, listening to stories and even making smores and toasting our marshmallows on the fire! We are now packing, ready to leave tomorrow, before having showers and jumping into bed for our last night!

Wednesday 19th June 2024

We woke up today and packed our bags, ready to leave later on after lunch. We had a delicious last breakfast before beginning our last two activities. We headed to abseiling which was a lot scarier than it looked for some! We had to let the rope out slowly, to descend down the tower - like something out of a spy movie! Next, we headed into the local woods to learn some survival techniques. We looked at building different shelters, such as an A frame or envelope shelter with a tarpaulin, before using a flint and steel to create a small fire with cotton wool. Lastly, we used knives and other tools to whittle wood and create small spears, which could be used as tent pegs or to catch something to eat! We enjoyed our last meal at PGL before heading back to school on the coach!
